Together, forging a brighter future
My daughter and granddaughter are the two most important people in my life. I am running for office because I am concerned for their future and want to make a better world for them and for all Mainers. If elected, I promise to show up, work hard, listen to my constituents, cooperate with my colleagues, and lead by example. I am an independent thinker and will do my best to find common ground among Mainers of all political leanings. I am campaigning on a platform to promote a healthy environment, sustainable economy, and resilient communities
I was a welder, pipefitter, and ironworker for 40 years on papermills, power plants, and commercial ships, and I own my small business. I know firsthand what it is like to be a single parent, raising my daughter myself since she started kindergarten, working long hours but still struggling to make ends meet, and being denied health insurance after an on-the-job injury. Our economy should work for everyone, not just the rich and well-connected. I believe in “a hand up for those who need it, hands off for those who don’t, and no handouts to corporations”.
My passion is speaking up for my neighbors and protecting our natural environment, especially against out-of-state interests. I founded the ‘Riverbilly Coalition’ to defend the Penobscot River watershed, helped ban out-of-state trash from Maine State landfills, and joined my community in fighting against boondoggles like the MRC / Fiberights’ proposed Argyle Dump and East-West Corridor. Economic opportunities for present and future generations depend on a healthy environment. I believe Mainers have the right to clean air, drinkable water, healthy soil, safe food, harvestable fish and wildlife, and a livable climate. I understand that “water is life” and that “no farms = no food”.
My creative side includes boatbuilding and metal artwork, and I enjoy combining art, technical skills, and craftsmanship to give back to my community. I am proud to have restored the Civil War Soldiers' Memorial in Orono and fabricated the Maine Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Augusta, small tokens of my appreciation to honor veterans who made great sacrifices to safeguard freedom and security for all Americans. I will make sure that government respects its commitment to veterans and others who serve the common good.
